I have everything hooked up right to put cette tapes into computer but still will not work?

I have windows xp and program for og and all is hooked up right and the music seems to be doing something but still can not get it to work right .. I have sound blaster 16 sound card, etc.. what can be the problem... is there difference in rca plugs meaning output and input and how can u tell?????
