Why have Scandinavian countries evolved to be such humane and pacifist nations?

Maybe most of the people there now aren't Christians, (I'm not sure about that) but the laws of these countries are still based on christian principles like caring for the poor, justice for all, no murder, no revenge when you are wronged, respect for all, etc.
