Install a gas fireplace on a wall that backs up to the garage?

In most parts of the country running your own gas lines is highly illegal, same with venting anything into the garage or providing any way for fumes from garage to enter house. You can install the fireplace on that wall, but you have to vent it to the out side, not into the garage. Using fireplace to heat house and garage is not going to p code anywhere and it is a good way to kill yourself.
